The three pieces

History is currently A Pageant of History. Pick Ancient Times, Middle Ages, Early Modern, or Modern Times and stay in chronological order after that. Older SCM users still talk in six periods; Egypt, Greece, and Rome now share Ancient Times.

Enrichment is Volume 1, 2, or 3. They are not grade-locked. You can start on any volume. Enrichment Studies, Volume 1 is the example cart below because its resource list is the longest published one.

Individual Studies is per child. A third grader and a seventh grader do not share that guide. Math and language arts live there.

Worked example: grades 3 and 7

Buy one history teacher guide, one Enrichment Volume 1, Individual Studies Grade 3, and Individual Studies Grade 7. Then buy or borrow the Volume 1 family resources: three picture study portfolios, three music kits, habit books, Shakespeare, hymns, scripture cards, nature journals, handicraft videos, and a language pack.

Do not buy two enrichment kits. Do not buy two history guides. Do buy two nature journals if both children keep one. Literature for the family read-aloud is one group — young, middle, or older — not both children's grade bands at once unless you want two read-alouds.
