The three guides

Enrichment Studies, Volume 1 is $17.95–$24.95. A Pageant of History teacher guide is $22.95–$32.95. Individual Studies by grade is $16.95–$24.95 each. Two children in different grades means two Individual Studies. Prices checked 2026-09-06.

What the guides assume you own

Enrichment Volume 1 names three Picture Study Portfolios, three Music Study with the Masters volumes, Laying Down the Rails, Laying Down the Rails for Children, Shakespeare in Three Steps, Singing the Great Hymns, scripture cards, Journaling a Year in Nature, My Book of Centuries, two Handicrafts Made Simple videos, and a foreign-language pack. That list is why a $20 plan becomes a $300–$500 cart if you buy new from SCM.

History spines such as Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors are extra if you do not already own them. Individual Studies will name a math program and language-arts books you may already have.

What the library and public domain will cover

Family read-alouds on SCM lists are marked library or public domain on purpose. Treasure Island, Jane Eyre, and Pollyanna do not need to be purchased new. Picture study prints and music kits usually do, unless you already own another artist's set and substitute.

SCM free USA shipping starts at $129. Returns are 60 days (checked 2026-09-06). Crossing the shipping threshold on purpose is rational if you were going to buy the kits anyway.

Worked scale

One child, first SCM year, buying enrichment kits new: expect roughly $300–$500 before math. Two children sharing enrichment and history, two Individual Studies: add about $17–$25 per extra grade guide, not a second enrichment cart.

Do not treat the $380 'full year of new materials' figure as a promise. It assumes you buy new SCM kits. A family that already owns picture study and borrows literature will come in lower.

Crossing $129 to unlock free shipping only helps if those extra dollars are items you were going to buy. Padding the cart with a fourth artist is not savings.

Returns are 60 days. Open the picture study envelope and still return it if the prints are the wrong artist. Confirm current return terms on SCM's site before you assume the window.

Individual Studies is per child. Two children in one grade still share a lot of the family hour, but they do not share a math book.
