Ancient Greece book list for Simply Charlotte Mason
Greece is no longer a standalone SCM year. It sits in Ancient Times with Egypt and Rome. The family spine for Greece and Rome is On the Edge of the Great Sea. Grade-level books still split the way the older rotation did.
Family versus grade
On the Edge of the Great Sea is the SCM spine. Our Little Spartan Cousin and Our Little Athenian Cousin are public-domain cousins books for early grades. D'Aulaires' Greek myths and Colum's Children's Homer are the middle-grade path. Plutarch and Homer are the upper path.
High school students who will not cycle back to Ancient Times before graduation can read the Greece/Rome spine over a summer. SCM says that plainly in its transition notes from the old six-year plan.
Library first
Myths and Homer translations are in most children's rooms. SCM kits are not. Buy the teacher guide if you want the narration prompts and maps; borrow the myths.

Reading load and substitutions
Plutarch is slow on purpose. One life per term is enough for Form III. Do not assign the whole parallel lives because a high-school list looks impressive.
Greek myths can stay oral for Form I. D'Aulaire is a look-and-narrate book, not a worksheet.
If you already own a different translation of the Odyssey, keep it. SCM does not require a house edition.
Greece and Rome share a spine this cycle. Do not buy a second teacher guide to 'cover Greece properly.' Lengthen those chapters instead. Shipping $129; returns 60 days (checked 2026-09-06).
A globe on the table during the Persian Wars is enough geography. You do not need a second geography course for this term.
