Ancient Egypt book list for Simply Charlotte Mason

Split the list three ways: what SCM sells, what the library will have, and what is public domain. Egypt now lives inside A Pageant of History: Ancient Times, with Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors as the family spine.

How SCM groups the year

Family resources are the teacher guide, the Lambert spine, and a Book of Centuries. Younger grades get story and picture-heavy books. Older grades get denser fiction and original historians. That is the Family / 1–3 / 4–6 / 7–9 / 10–12 pattern SCM uses across history.

A Pageant of History: Ancient Times and Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors are the SCM-sold core. Boy of the Pyramids and Pharaoh's Boat are library holds for the youngest. Herodotus on Egypt is public domain for the oldest.

What not to double-buy

If you already own a used Egypt spine that is living, you can keep it and still use the Pageant lesson structure. Substitutions are normal. The method cares that the book is living, not that the ISBN matches. See charlotte mason living books.

Picture study and music for the year come from Enrichment Studies, not from this history list. Do not add a second artist because the history book mentions tomb paintings. Wider program choice: charlotte mason curriculum comparison.

Reading load and substitutions

Nile geography belongs in the Book of Centuries, not in a second atlas course. One map on the wall is enough.

If a first grader cannot sit through Lambert, read the younger titles first and keep the family spine for older ears only. Mixed-age homes do this every year.

Tomb-painting rabbit trails are handicraft or picture study, not a reason to buy an extra art history text. Keep the enrichment artist for the term.

A used copy of Pharaoh's Boat is as good as a new one. The narration is the work. Free USA shipping at $129; 60-day returns (checked 2026-09-06).
